Florida Gulf Coast University, Located in Fort Meyer, Florida, was established in May 1991. But the campus groundbreaking was on November 28th 1995. Mariana Coto was the first student admitted in 1997. FGCU is still a young university but is on the rise, gaining national exposure from the basketball team making it to the sweet 16. That was the first time I heard of Florida Gulf coast University.
